A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :

The St. Croix Institute for Sustainable Community Development (SCISCD) is one of the only known sustainable campus and community development "think and do tanks" in the nation that is housed within an institution of higher education. The Director of the Institute functions as the sustainability director for the University in addition to leveraging outreach, consulting, and collaborative opportunities across the community as well as regionally, nationally, and internationally.
The SCISCD is the go-to resource for all things sustainability in the St. Croix River watershed as well as an innovative and premier consulting venue for cash positive - carbon negative sustainable community design, which leverages faculty and student participation whenever possible. Examples of consulting clients and partners include US Fish & Wildlife Service, The Aspen Institute, Electric Power Research Institute, Uponor Corporation, Habitat for Humanity, GO Network, Community Action Partnership, and countless local and regional organizations, school districts, boards, and entrepreneurial initiatives.
