Identify environmental impacts of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s activities and identify environmental sustainability opportunities and initiatives for the university.
Assess and quantify specific environmental impacts

- Make recommendations to the Chancellor for reducing negative environmental impacts.
- Review draft environmental statements on capital projects and formulate recommendations to the Coordinator of Space Utilization and Campus Planning and the Campus Planning Commission.

A brief description of each sustainability office:
The Office of Sustainability was launched in fall of 2012 to use the campus's strengths in teaching, research, and public service to explore and advance the ways that UW-Platteville can "meet the needs of the present while also enhancing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." The Sustainability Office is located in Facilities Management and work comprehensively to improve sustainability of operations and academics.

The Sustainability Office is responsible for broadly improving campus sustainability. The majority of efforts in the past three years have been:
- the funding, design and construction of a 2.4MW solar array,
- the planning, design and construction of the University's first building to
be submitted for LEED certification,
- Written University letter of commitment to be waste zero by 2035,
- Converted the central heating plant from coal to natural gas,

Sustainability Coordinator leads campus efforts to cultivate a culture of sustainability by informing campus operations, guiding the stewardship of campus lands and resources, contributing to student education and experiences, and working toward social equity. Job Responsibilities
Schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, conferences, travel, and work unit operations
Serves as a primary point of contact for individuals and groups, provides organizational information via phone, in person, and through other communication mediums
Prepares and audits complex records, edits documents, and reviews work done by others
Develops, sends, receives, copies, and distributes communications to the appropriate entities according to established policies and procedures
Develops, implements, and maintains methods and organizational systems directed at the maintenance of electronic/physical records related to work operations according to established policies and procedures

Job description for the sustainability officer position (3rd position):
The Waste Minimization Coordinator supports our sustainability programming with an emphasis on waste minimization. The Sustainability Office helps UW-Platteville make efficient use of resources to benefit the people, environment, and budget of our campus and community. Current programs that this position oversees include Pioneer Restore (the campus resale program). Responsibilities include but are not limited to: item intake, inventory and tracking, item sorting based upon the most financially responsible and environmentally-friendly diversion method (re-use on campus, sell, donate, or recycle/compost), handling funds and customer service, managing a crew of 3-4 students at any given time, complying with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations and policies, and program promotion.
