Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Wraparound childcare for Public Schools
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
UW-Platteville's child care center, rated five stars (the highest quality standards) with YoungStar, started offering onsite after school and wrap-around care for the Platteville Public School District two years ago. Child care has been an issue in our rural community with working parents unable to find adequate care for their children once school ends but before the working day is complete. Our University partnered with the school district and now sends staff to the two elementary schools in Platteville to provide childcare during these windows. The program employs UW-Platteville students (giving them valuable job experience), reduces transportation (children stay onsite rather than moving to other locations), and reduces stress for parents and community members by increasing access to high quality, affordable child care. This practice appears to be unique in Wisconsin and possibly nationally.
