Criteria
Institution has an indoor air quality (IAQ) management program that includes regular auditing or monitoring, a mechanism for occupants to register complaints, and action plans to implement any corrective measures required in response to audits, monitoring or complaints.
Policies and plans adopted by entities of which the institution is part (e.g. government or university system) may count for this credit as long as the policies apply to and are followed by the institution.
Applicability
This credit applies to all institutions.
Scoring
Institutions earn the maximum of 1 point available for this credit when all buildings are covered by an indoor air quality management program that meets the criteria outlined above (or if there is an institution-wide program). Incremental points are available based on the percentage of gross floor area of building space that meets the criteria. For example, if an institution had 50 percent of its floor area of building space covered by an IAQ program, it would earn 0.5 points (half of the points available for this credit).
See scoring table and example in the STARS Technical Manual.
Measurement
Timeframe
Report on current policies and plans and the most recent data available.
Sampling and Data Standards
Institutions may exclude unoccupied building space, provided it is excluded from both the gross floor area of building space and the floor area of building space covered by an IAQ program.
