A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

UW Oshkosh has been innovative in generating arts-based events to educate about sustainability. A key partner in this effort has been Ruckus Roots (www.ruckusroots.org), who first helped us develop a TrashFormation event for Earth Week 2010. TrashFormation was a 3-day event to use university solid waste to construct sculptures, which included large birds, palm trees, robots, potted "flowers", and a stage from which the Chancellor delivered his Earth Day address. The events were combined with an outdoor waste sort and teach-ins about waste, recycling and art in our lives. Students worked with the RuckusRoots artists and faculty.

For Earth Week 2011, Ruckus Roots returned to UW Oshkosh to anchor "Bike Bash" - art on wheels. Again they worked with students to decorate their own bikes, and build bikes for towing carts, a stationary bike for charging small electronics, a solar-powered loudspeaker and digital message bike, and kinetic art built from bike wheels.
