Several Courses in the Water Technology Certificate include:
Design and Maintenance of Stormwater Infiltration Practices: Infiltration of stormwater has become an important topic in the management of urban runoff. Many communities now require infiltration of stormwater to help reduce pollutant discharges and recharge local groundwater systems. Under Wisconsin Administrative Code NR 151.12, a percent of stormwater runoff must be infiltrated on new development and redevelopment. Prior to infiltration, pretreatment is required for parking lot runoff and for runoff from new road construction in commercial, industrial and institutional areas. Discover the planning, design, construction and maintenance of complex infiltration systems.
Ecosystem Services in Stormwater Control Measures: Learn about the value of healthy, functioning, natural ecosystems for urban and suburban areas through the services they provide to humans. Common examples of these services include air purification, carbon sequestration, temperature regulation, water treatment, and waste assimilation. Be challenged to evaluate where healthy, functioning ecosystems may be found in and near (sub)urban areas, and whether we can supplement these natural ecosystems with engineered ecosystems such as stormwater control measures
Sustainable Water Management - An Introduction: Lay the foundation for quality water resources in the future by learning to manage them today. Cover concepts for long-term sustainability by focusing on environmental science, engineering, public health, and the social and economic benefits provided by clean, safe, water.
