The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:
UW-Madison operates twelve agricultural research stations throughout the state totaling more than 5,000 acres and hundreds of agricultural research animals. Many of these stations are joint research enterprises with other federal, state, and private organizations and all fall outside of the scope of the main campus. The only exception to this are the Walnut Street Greenhouses which are on the main campus and are included within the institutional boundary for this report.
UW Health, which owns and operates the hospital adjacent to the UW-Madison campus, is independent and non-profit, receiving no (non-grant) state funding and is a separate organizational entity from the UW System. Faculty from the School of Medicine that also work at UW Health are included in this report. Research and teaching buildings that some hospital staff utilize (but which are owned and operated by UW-Madison) are included within the institutional boundary for this report.
