Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

Data is representative of Fiscal Year 2020 which was before the COVID Pandemic and more indicative of a typical community service hours. Data was obtained from 4 sources:

Multi-Institutional Study of Leadership (https://leadership.wisc.edu/research/#2018-msl-research; 2018 data):
- This survey (using a representative sample) provided data on the percent of students who participate in some type of community service in a typical month (44.12%, used to respond to Part 1).
- The survey also asked respondents to indicate hours of community service performed in a typical month across a number of categories
* To avoid potential double-counting with recorded (not survey) data below, the response for Part 2 only included data on community service performed with organizations unaffiliated with UW-Madison or on students' own time.
* Respondents were asked to respond to ranges of hours served per month (0, 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, or 16-20), total hours of service performed used averages of each range (i.e., 0, 3, 8, 13, 18) and only counted 7 months for service performed during a typical academic year
