A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
First, we obtained a list of the credit-bearing courses taught at UW-Madison during FY21. This list included supervised internships, practicums, and courses covering independent study, special topics, thesis development, clinical skills, and performance art. In this list, courses that were open both to undergraduate and graduate students were designated as undergraduate courses for the purposes of this report.
Next we identified which of these courses had completed the work necessary to receive the Sustainability Course Attribute (https://policy.wisc.edu/library/UW-1061), formally designating them as a sustainability-related course.
Then, we used the STARS set of search terms (e.g., "sustainability," "inequality," and "climate change") to identify which of the remaining courses might be sustainability-related due to the presence of the search team in their course description or the learning outcomes associated with the course.
Each course title, description, and learning outcomes (when available) on this refined list was then reviewed by a team from the Office of Sustainability.
Sustainability-focused and sustainability-inclusive courses that are cross-listed in multiple departments were only counted as one course but each department was included in the count of departments with sustainability courses.
In the attached inventory courses are listed multiple times on the "FY21_Final_Course_List" tab if they are cross-listed in multiple departments and/or offered across multiple semesters. The "Unique_Course_Count" and "Unique_Department_Count" tabs are counts of unique courses (e.g., not double-counting for cross-listed courses or courses offered across multiple semesters) and match what is reported in this credit.

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
