Sustainability coordination, including major yearly activities and tasks, have been in place since fall 2008. Activities and accomplishments include promoting/reviewing Green Fund proposals submitted by students, staff, and faculty 2x/year and promoting/coordinating numerous annual campus engagement events, primarily speakers and film series.
Notable accomplishments within the past three years include:
• Hosting a Sustainability Conference for all University of Wisconsin university campuses
• Establishing a Campus Garden for interested students
• Initiating a car share program for students, staff and faculty
• Hosting a La Crosse Farmers' Market on campus
• Creating new campus sustainability vision and mission statements that were approved by major campus governance groups (Student Senate, Faculty Senate, and Academic Staff Council)
• Receiving approval from campus administration to engage in STARS

Committee 1: joint Committee on Environmental Sustainability, which is charged with oversight of campus-wide sustainability actions and policies, including:
1. Recommending actions that promote environmental sustainability including, but not limited to:
• Implementing the Talloires Declaration;
• Creating an institutional culture of sustainability;
• Educating for environmentally responsible citizenship;
• Fostering environmental literacy;
• Collaborating with stakeholders and promoting interdisciplinary approaches;
• Enhancing capacity of primary and secondary schools; and
• Broadening service nationally and internationally.
2. Promoting discussion among students and staff regarding environmental sustainability.
3. Evaluating proposals funded by the Environmental Sustainability Reserve (“Green Fund”).
4. Recommending actions concerning environmental sustainability to the Chancellor and university community.

A brief description of each sustainability officer position:
The Sustainability Assessment Coordinator (25%FTE) is responsible for coordinating the collection and management of information needed to complete UW-La Crosse's STAR's report. This individual leads the STARS Team, which includes members from departments and units across campus. This position answers to UW-La Crosse's Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
The Facilities Assessment Coordinator (25% FTE) is responsible for oversight and coordination of facility operations that pertain to energy usage, facility energy efficiency, LEED certification for new building construction, waste management, and other sustainability projects associated with campus facilities.
