A list and brief descriptions of the continuing education courses that address sustainability:
1) Basic Wetland Delineation workshops - This workshop introduces participants to the basics of wetland delineation fieldwork and the paperwork that needs to be filed. Lectures on vegetation, soils, hydrology and methodology prep participants for field work. Additional lectures on related topics are also included. This course should be taken once and is normally a prerequisite for the Advanced Wetland Delineation Training Workshop. Participants combine classroom instruction with field exercises taught by leading government experts in hydrology, vegetation, soils and wetland policy. 2) Advanced Wetland Delineation workshops - The Advanced workshop provides more in-depth training in wetland delineation methodology and field experience. Successful completion of the Basic Wetland Delineation Training Workshop is a prerequisite for admission. This course may be taken multiple times. 3) Basic Plant ID workshop - This workshop introduces participants to the basics of identification of grasses, sedges, and rushes; three graminoid families with species commonly found growing in wetlands and adjacent uplands. Lectures on taxonomy, plant structure and use of appropriate plant keys for identification are provided with a mixture of lab and field work. It is preferable but not required to take the Basic Plant ID workshop prior. 4. Basic Hydric Soils workshop - This workshop introduces participants to wetland soils fieldwork and the paperwork that needs to be filed for wetland delineations in relation to the soils component. Lectures on wetland soils and their identification form the core of this workshop. It is preferable but not required to take this workshop prior to the Basic Wetland Delineation Training Workshop. 5. Critical Methods workshop - a refresher workshop to present new state and federal regulations relating to wetland delineation. Includes new state and local wetland regulations: state wetland permitting, shoreland-wetland zoning and wetland compensatory mitigation. The Wetland Identification law and how to receive a concurrence for wetland delineation reports. How to apply the new version of the Wisconsin Rapid Assessment Methodology
