The involvement of the River Studies Center in environmental educational and research is shared in several ways:
• By giving oral presentations to scientific and academic conferences.
• By hosting regional, national, and international scientific meetings
• By developing an extensive track record of research collaborations with scientists from other universities within the U.S., Canada, and other countries.
• By sharing its activities in brochures and a fairly elaborate web site.
UW-La Crosse actively participates in the UW Sytem "Inclusive Excellence" program to promote diversity and fairness among students and faculty. It publishes a variety of reports and supports workshops and other presentations, including:
• Inclusive Excellence Report Card
• Listing resources and teaching strategies for "inclusive pedagogies"
• Documentation of its involvement with the national McNair Scholars Program

Faculty maintaining active research programs routinely collaborate on joint research projects with faculty from other campuses.
One specific example is the 4th Biennial Symposium of the International Society for River Science (ISRS), which is being hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse River Studies Center in collaboration with the United States Geological Survey Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center, Winona State University Large River Studies Center, and the University of New England, Australia. The three most recent biennial symposia were held in St. Petersburg, FL, USA (2009); Berlin, Germany (2011); and Beijing, PRC (2013).
