A brief description of the program(s), including positive outcomes during the previous three years:

UW-La Crosse's support for course development, includes the CLS Small Grant program, Faculty Development Grants, Curricular Redesign Grant program, UW-L Foundation Small Grants and other institutional programs that support developing and implementing new courses or programs, redesigning and implement existing courses or programs, and developing and implementing new teaching practices among individual and groups of instructors.

Examples of positive outcomes for developing and enhancing UW-L's sustainability curriculum include:

• Enhancement of courses on Outdoor Recreation and Outdoor Philosophy, including hosting a conference focused on these curricular areas
• Support for adding a laboratory experience to Environmental Chemistry
• Faculty development support for developing a course in Social Entrepreneurship
• Support for taking students to sustainability-related conferences
• Support to attend a conference on Media Literacy Education, which addressed media perceptions on several topics of direct relevance to sustainability, including cultural diversity, equality, climate change, and media ethics.
• Providing professional development funds to attend sustainability workshops.


A brief description of the incentives that faculty members who participate in the program(s) receive:

Direct incentives: Resources provided by UW-L that support curriculum development and redesign include funding for:
• One semester reduction in teaching assignment
• Support for undergraduate or graduate student workers
• Purchasing equipment and materials
• Publication costs

Indirect incentive: Successfully developing or redesigning curricula play significant roles in most tenure and promotion decisions.
