Has the institution conducted a GHG emissions inventory within the previous three years that includes all Scope 1 and 2 emissions? :
Yes

A copy of the most recent GHG emissions inventory:
A brief description of the methodology and/or tool used to complete the GHG emissions inventory:

SIMAP is a carbon and nitrogen-accounting platform that can track, analyze, and improve your campus-wide sustainability.

The most recent GHG inventory will not match the data listed below exactly. The report attached was created by a class and may have utilized different GWP (20 vs. 100 year), emissions factors versions (2021 probable in the report), and methods for calculating scope 2 (market vs. location based). Data for the STARS report was compiled two semesters after the initial report. Data was pulled based on the reporting fields below, and only includes the data requested below (i.e. travel to and from home is not included in the STARS report).

Has the GHG emissions inventory been validated internally by personnel who are independent of the GHG accounting and reporting process and/or verified by an independent, external third party?:
No

A brief description of the GHG inventory verification process:
---

Documentation to support the GHG inventory verification process:
---

Gross Scope 1 GHG emissions, performance year:
Weight in MTCO2e
Stationary combustion 11,072.61 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Other sources (mobile combustion, process emissions, fugitive emissions) 196.83 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Total gross Scope 1 GHG emissions, performance year:
11,269.44 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Gross Scope 2 GHG emissions, performance year (market-based):
Weight in MTCO2e
Imported electricity 5,667 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Imported thermal energy 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Total gross Scope 2 GHG emissions, performance year:
5,667 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Gross GHG emissions from biogenic sources, performance year:
0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Does the GHG emissions inventory include Scope 3 emissions from the following sources?:
Yes or No Weight in MTCO2e
Business travel Yes 185.02 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Commuting Yes 3,862.28 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Purchased goods and services No ---
Capital goods No ---
Fuel- and energy-related activities not included in Scope 1 or Scope 2 Yes 4,455.51 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Waste generated in operations Yes 723.58 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Other sources No ---

Total Scope 3 GHG emissions, performance year:
9,226.39 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

A brief description of how the institution accounted for its Scope 3 emissions:

Travel data is recorded by our vendors and reported back to us, which accounts for city bus, athletics travel, business travel, and refunded mileage for business travel with personal vehicles. Commuting and Study abroad flight data is collected through a robust survey with a 15% response rate on average.

Has the institution completed an inventory within the previous three years to quantify its air pollutant emissions?:
Yes

Annual weight of emissions for::
Weight of Emissions
Nitrogen oxides (NOx) 10.38 Tons
Sulfur oxides (SOx) 30.00 Tons
Carbon monoxide (CO) 8.35 Tons
Particulate matter (PM) ---
Ozone (O3) 0.01 Tons
Lead (Pb) ---
Hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) ---
Ozone-depleting compounds (ODCs) ---
Other standard categories of air emissions identified in permits and/or regulations ---

Do the air pollutant emissions figures provided include the following sources?:
Yes or No
Major stationary sources Yes
Area sources No
Mobile sources No
Commuting No
Off-site electricity production No

A brief description of the methodology(ies) the institution used to complete its air emissions inventory:

The State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) issues air emission permits that include required monitoring and reporting through the Wisconsin DNR Air Reporting System. Details on the calculation methodology for these emissions can be found here: https://dnr.wi.gov/files/PDF/pubs/am/AM498.pdf
Specific emissions data is searchable here: https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/airemissions/historical.html. The search tool provided by the DNR at this link is not particularly user friendly, providing the FID# for each campus permit can make the search process easier for AASHE or other data reviewers.

Gross Scope 2 GHG emissions from purchased electricity (location-based):
9,210.90 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Gross Scope 2 GHG emissions from imported thermal energy (location-based) :
0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
