Does the institution host a peer-to-peer textbook exchange program, textbook lending library, or alternate textbook project?:
Yes

A brief description of the textbook exchange program, textbook lending library, or alternate textbook project:
UW-Eau Claire undergraduate students may rent textbooks in the Instructional Resource Rental Department, located on the upper level of the University Bookstore in Davies Center.

You must have your Blugold Card to check out any textbooks from the IRR Department.

Main texts for each course are usually rented. Some textbooks and other course materials may need to be purchased.
If you drop a class, return your rental textbook from that class immediately so another student can use it.
You may check out only one copy of each textbook.
Rental materials are due on the last day of final exams, but you can bring books back one at any time to avoid lines.
You may only check out textbooks for courses you are currently enrolled.

Does the institution provide incentives for academic staff that explicitly encourage the authorship, peer review, and/or adoption of open access textbooks?:
Yes

A brief description of the incentives to encourage the authorship, peer review, and/or adoption of open access textbooks:
The Instructional Resource Rental Committee believes that the IRR Department should be innovative and respond to changing technologies in education. We also have to live within the budget constraints for the IRR Department, which is based upon the fees collected each academic year for the textbook rental program. This information is presented to guide instructors so they are able to request the rental textbooks needed for their classes, while being sensitive to the availability of dollars to purchase those rental resources.

2021 update: UW-Eau Claire is continuing a pilot program that supports faculty who want to incorporate into their courses more teaching, learning and research materials that reside in the public domain or have been released under an open license that allows them to be used at no cost. The project aims to reduce costs associated with buying textbooks or other course materials.
