A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:
In the first phase of building design, the Director of Campus Sustainability is included in meetings with designers and contractors regarding all possible green features of new buildings. After the construction is complete, the Campus Sustainability Office (with assistance from Physical Plant) monitors and reports back on building performance.
Each new building proposal is assessed in terms of the impact of the project on the University’s sustainability goals including
- impact on the University’s energy use profile and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions profile,
- opportunities to leverage the project to achieve sustainability improvements, - - identification of key social sustainability impacts of the project.
