A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :
Over the past year, the CSO compiled a list of potential sustainability focused and related courses based on an inventory done in 2015 and a review of new course approved by the Senate during the last 3 years. We collected 189 course syllabi from 28 departments. With support from the Academic Working Group on Sustainability, our staff carefully examined each syllabus, assigning an “R” or “F” designation based on the definitions and criteria established by STARS. Between December 2018 and March 2019 we reviewed 189 courses from 28 departments, summarizing sustainability content and proposing F or R designations where applicable. At luncheon hosted by the AWG and CSO in March, faculty and instructors who submitted syllabi were invited to comment on courses requiring further discussion. In the end, this project Identified 32 sustainability-focused and 62 sustainability-related courses currently on offer at UWinnipeg. The attached spreadsheet contains a detailed inventory. We also promote all of these courses on the sustainability website here: https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/sustainability/sustainability-every-day/academics/courses.html

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
In response to STARS Staff review feedback, we have added an up to date inventory of our sustainability courses in the form of an Excel file that meets the requirements exemplified in in the Credit Help Center. We have also provided a link to our public website which lists sustainability courses by department in a more viewer-friendly format. The number of courses reported in the STARS tool now match the number of courses presented in our updated inventory (see above).

The information presented here is self-reported. While AASHE staff review portions of all STARS reports and institutions are welcome to seek additional forms of review, the data in STARS reports are not verified by AASHE.
