All new construction since 2009 has been built to a minimium LEED Silver standard. There have been five new buildings built. Two have received LEED Silver certification. LEED submissions have been completed for the other three; however, the certification process for these buildings is not yet complete.

The University of Winnipeg is required to specify in RFPS and tenders for contract the highest green building standard consistent with the university's fiscal resources in the construction of new buildings but also retrofitting or renovating existing buildings.
A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:
In the first phase of building design, the Director of Campus Sustainability is included in meetings with designers and contractors regarding all possible green features of new buildings. After the construction is complete, the Campus Sustainability Office (with assistance from Physical Plant) monitors and reports back on building performance.
