A brief description of the green building rating system(s) used and/or a list of certified buildings and ratings:
In 2008, Western established an operational policy that all new building construction and retrofits will achieve a minimum LEED Silver certification. In 2014, this policy was revised to say: "Best efforts should be made to undertake design and construction at a level to achieve a minimum of LEED silver certification, noting there may be renovation projects where this is not achievable without significant additional expenditures. In this case, the Vice-President (Resources & Operations) shall have the final recommendation. This statement does not mean that formal certification will be sought." Currently, Western has 6 LEED New Construction building on campus: o Richard Ivey School of Business (LEED Gold) o Music Building renovation (LEED Gold) o Ontario Hall Residence (LEED Silver) o Public Health and Family Medicine (LEED Silver) o Stevenson-Lawson Halls (LEED Silver) o Physics and Astronomy (LEED Certified) Buildings that underwent construction within the previous 5 years (2012-2017) with no certification: - New Academic Building The Collider also received LEED certification in 2015. However, this building is part of the Advanced Manufacturing Park, a collaboration with other external organizations and over which Western does not have full operational control. Therefore, the building was not included in the square footage count.

A brief description of the green building guidelines or policies and/or a list or sample of buildings covered:
The Green Building guidelines are the ones used under LEED (v2009), for all new construction and major renovations. Although the FIMS/Nursing building did not target certification, the design of the building was done with the guidelines in mind. Commissioning activities were performed as usual with this project.
