Our Green Campus Series

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

The Our Green Campus Series is a three part sustainability series featuring lectures with accompanying workshops or tours to educate Western students on topics such as living sustainably, energy conservation, sustainable landscaping, LEED/other sustainability certifications, biodiversity, and water consumption. The program was developed by EnviroWestern and Facilities Management. The program provides students with knowledge and experience using the campus as a living case study. Each module is two-fold: students attend a 1 hour presentation delivered by Western staff / informed community advocates, then students participate in a campus tour or workshop highlighting one or more of the concepts delivered in the presentation. In addition to receiving a certificate acknowledging their commitment to sustainability, students can also add this event to their co-curricular record, helping to competitively set themselves apart from other students.

A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):

By participating in this series, students have an opportunity to work with other like-minded individuals to identify sustainability initiatives around campus. They learn a great deal of information about how sustainability principles are deployed at Western, as well as how they can contribute to a more sustainable campus and world. Additionally, the workshops help students stand out to potential employers, showing dedication and interest in various sustainability fields.
