A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the course inventory:
To complete this course inventory, a previous inventory was used as a reference. The previous inventory was conducted in 2011 by an Environmental Project Coordinator at Western's Facilities Management (then Physical Plant Department). This individual examined all departments and their corresponding course descriptions from 2008 to 2011 by reading Western's online academic calendar. Based on the information provided from each department's website and the academic calendar, sustainability-focused and -related courses were compiled according to the definitions provided by AASHE. For this reporting year, course offerings from the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 academic years were examined. The previous inventory was revised, taking into account courses that have since been removed, and adding courses that have recently been offered by each department. Again, both the online academic calendar and department websites were used to identify courses, determined their approach to sustainability (focused, related, or none), and verified to ensure that they were actually taught during the specified time frame.
