UWG offered start up money and is committed to yearly fees to maintain a community wide bike share program. This was an innovative community effort that involved the cooperation of the University, Tanner Health Systems, and Southwire (a large local business).
The bike share program is aimed at environmental gains, such as riding instead of driving, economic sustainability by boosting local businesses and offering affordable bike access, and social sustainability by creating a more cohesive sense of community and place while also fostering improved well being through fitness.
The bike share partnership was well received in the community and received a lot fo good press.
