In 2021, the EDI-R Office led an Equity Data Advisory Group that was responsible for launching the University of Waterloo Equity Survey. The survey confidentially asked respondents to choose the terms that matched their identity in different areas, including the following: disability, racial identity, Indigenous identity, gender identity, sexual identity, religous or spiritual affiliation, family education background, and Canadian residency status. The survey results are intended to help us plan programs and supports for under-represented and equity-deserving individuals and groups on our campus.

The 2015 Salary Anomaly report indicated that there were systematic compensation biases related to gender. The Working Group made recommendations to address gender-based salary anomalies.  The Faculty Association at University of Waterloo’s Salary Anomaly Working Group has identified and addressed faculty salary gaps related to gender. Their most recent work has examined race-based and Indigenous-based salary gaps.

The University of Waterloo launched its equity survey in June 2021, aimed primarily at collecting information to better understand the makeup of the University community. This will be an ongoing initiative to ensure an ongoing accurate picture of who is among the campus community. It is expected that findings will be made public over the coming months.
