At the end of 2024, the VP of University Relations as well as the Director of Sustainability advocated for the Region of Waterloo to preserve transit service for the community.

University of Waterloo is a member of Universities Canada, and has endorsement from Waterloo's senior leadership. In 2024, Universities Canada submitted a pre-budget sumission to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance in advance of Budget 2025, advocating for support for improved university infrastructure by ensuring existing, new or renewed federal funding programs for energy-efficient infrastructure and accessible retrofits are designed to allow all post-secondary institutions to apply for support.
