The University of Waterloo co – hosted, along with Wilfred Laurier University and Conestoga College the OCUSP 2023 annual general meeting. Waterloo presented on topics such as using experiential learning to build team capacity, and procurement in a circular campus.

University of Waterloo also hosted the Together|Ensemble Conference in 2024, which was the sixth year of the conference, bringing together Canadians from all sectors to track the SDGs in Canada. This year marked the first time the conference was held in-person, hosted at the Balsillie School of International Affairs in Waterloo, Ontario. The conference brought together 175 delegates in person, and 600 delegates online to explore the theme of “Innovation for the SDGs”, with a focus on innovations in Sustainable Finance, Future Cities, and AI for Eco-Innovation.

The Dean of Environment served as the Chair of SDSN Canada through June 2024. The Sustainability Director also serves as the Chair of the City of Waterloo’s Sustainability Advisory Committee for 2017-2024, and serves on the Steering Committee for the local municipal climate action plan, Transform WR. In addition, Waterloo has multiple faculty members who serve on the boards of directors for Sustainable Waterloo Region and Reep Green Solutions, two local environmental non-profits who focus on business and residential sustainability, respectively.

Waterloo’s Director of Sustainability has participated for two years through the AASHE mentorship program, supporting mentees at University of Michigan, University of Alberta Institute of Technology, and Sheridan College.
