A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
During 2024 orientation, students had the opportunity to participate in the Free Store, as part of the Choose Your Own Adventure activity. The Free Store is an initiative to improve waste diversion by keeping gently used or new items out of the landfill, by passing the items along to other Waterloo community members. Students moving into campus housing also had the opportunity to receive household items from previous students living in residence via the campus moveout program (https://www.instagram.com/p/C-88u5jA-Il/).
The Sustainability Office was also part of graduate student orientation, ran a waste sorting station at the Black and Gold Carnival orientation event (https://www.instagram.com/p/C_ntIbLA8_7/?hl=en), provided training for orientation leaders, hosted a booth during clubs week, and actively recruited Green Residence Ambassadors throughout orientation (https://www.instagram.com/p/C_xxXeVOYNO/?hl=en).
