A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:

The Regional Sustainability Initiative engages organizations within Waterloo Region to convert sustainability interest into action and progress. Over 60 organizations are participating across public, private, and not-for profit sectors. Participating organizations commit to developing a baseline, establishing reduction targets in a variety of impact areas, and reporting on their progress to the broader community. In addition, the initiative encourages knowledge sharing between organizations, recognition of mutual success, and a collaborative approach. Waterloo is a pledging partner in both the waste and climate change categories, provides ongoing support for program development, and provides financial support for placement of University of Waterloo co-op positions to support the Regional Sustainability Initiative’s efforts.
