A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
The inventory includes Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, and Professors. It does not include adjunct faculty or faculty emeriti, graduate student or post-doctoral research, or staff-led research. Research related to sustainability was identified through publically available research profiles hosted on department websites. Staff from the Sustainability Office and Office of Research searched through research interests and expertise to identify connections to sustainability based on keywords and topics connected to the UN Sustainable Development Goals based on keywords derived from SDSN Global. In addition, the Office of Research looked through lists of affiliated faculty members of major university research institutes related to sustainability, including the Water Institute, Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy, and the Interdisciplinary Centre on Climate Change, as the faculty descriptions there often included more specific reference to applications of particular research towards sustainability challenges. The Sustainability Office also worked with the Library to extract publications connected to the SDGs using the Elsevier SDG keywords to corroborate the faculty-profile methodology.
