The University of Waterloo hosted a conference of all Ontario university procurement departments in Spring 2018. The Sustainability Office presented a case study of Waterloo’s current approach and progress towards integrating sustainable procurement across campus, how it was partnering with departments to encourage product purchasing for sustainable paper and electronic equipment, and the broad context of sustainability and how it relates to procurement.

Waterloo’s Sustainability Manager has served for two years (2016/17-2017/18) as the Director of Communications for the Ontario College and University Sustainability Professionals. The Sustainability Manager has also served as the Chair of the City of Waterloo’s Sustainability Advisory Committee for 2017-2018. In addition, Waterloo has multiple faculty members who serve on the boards of directors for Sustainable Waterloo Region and Reep Green Solutions, two local environmental non-profits who focus on business and residential sustainability, respectively

Living Planet on Campus: Waterloo partnered with several post-secondary institutions and WWF Canada to support the pilot and launch of the WWF Canada Living Planet on Campus program. This innovative program works to provide students with more opportunities to be involved in sustainability on campus and in the community, and for professional skill building related to sustainability. As part of the pilot, Waterloo facilitated a student team to attend the first WWF-Canada inter-campus hackathon, “Designing Change for a Living Planet”, in early 2018.
