Waterloo is a member of the local Regional Sustainability Initiative, managed by Sustainable Waterloo Region. Over 70 organizations are participating, across public, private, and not-for profit sectors. Participating organizations commit to developing a baseline, establishing reduction targets in a variety of impact areas, and reporting on their progress to the broader community. In addition, the initiative encourages knowledge sharing between organizations, recognition of mutual success, and a collaborative approach. Waterloo is an observing member for its climate change action, and a pledging partner for its waste management efforts. (https::/sustainablewr.ca).
