A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:

The institutional boundary for this report includes the Seattle campus as well as the Bothell and Tacoma campuses. Some additional properties owned and/or managed by the UW may be included as well and are identified in the notes section of applicable credit areas.

Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? Included?
Agricultural school No No
Medical school Yes Yes
Other professional school with labs and clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) Yes Yes
Satellite campus Yes Yes
Farm larger than 5 acres or 2 hectares No No
Agricultural experiment station larger than 5 acres or 2 hectares No No
Hospital Yes Yes

The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:

Gross Scope 2 GHG emissions from other sources reported as zero elsewhere in this submission because, for the purposes of STARS reporting, we only include contiguous properties that UW owns and manages. Facilities such has Harborview Medical Center and others located throughout the city and may use steam are not owned by UW and thus their GHG emissions are tracked and reported through other agencies or the property owners. Additional examples of exclusions due to this rationale include: Northwest Hospital, Valley Medical Center, UW Medicine Neighborhood Clinics, and The Rome Center. The UW Facilities organization is currently working on a database of all UW-associated buildings and facilities to better understand the institutional boundary for purposes of this submission, as well as other reporting submissions (e.g. to the State of Washington, individual hospitals for Practice Greenhealth, etc.). This rationale applies for all credit areas of this submission unless otherwise noted within the credit area.
