A brief description of the program:
Every year, UW Recycling partners with Seattle Public Utilities to provide a two-day collection event to residents in the UW’s North Campus Community. The program is called Husky Neighborhood Move In and it allows for bulky items to be recycled, donated, or thrown away properly. During the event, Waste Management provides garbage services, UW Recycling collects recyclables, and Goodwill receives donations. During the September 2011 event, Waste Management collected a total of 16,520 pounds (8.26 tons) of garbage; UW Recycling approximately 75 pounds of wood waste and 120 pounds of scrap metal; and Goodwill received 2,165 pounds of reusable household items and electronics. This event occurs annually, usually the weekend before school starts so 2012 data is not yet available. Additionally, UW Recycling works closely with Housing & Food Services to provide extra service and containers for all the extra cardboard that is generated at the residence halls during move-in.
