UW launched the Livable City Year program in 2016, partnering with a city or municipality each year to advance livability and sustainability efforts in the community. Livable City Year connects UW faculty and students with projects identified as needs by the partner government, providing the community with the resources of the university while giving students real-world experience in civic engagement.

UW Bothell and Cascadia College have partnered with City of Bothell to develop community-wide events such as our annual Earth Week celebrations. This involves coordination and co-planning of events that will reach not only the campus community, but the greater Bothell Community. UW Bothell is an annual participant in City of Bothell's Sustainamania event as well.

The St. Edward State Park Environmental Education and Research Center (EERC) is a regional research and education hub that will provide field learning and environmental research opportunities for K-12 students, local colleges, and neighboring communities. The EERC will be housed in a space developed by Daniels Real Estate, LLC as part of the renovation of the St. Edward Seminary building.

In addition to more than 1,000 square feet of classroom and meeting space, the learning center will use the 326 acres of St. Edward State Park as a living laboratory and outdoor classroom. The EERC will provide evidenced-based science programs to connect and inspire a diverse community of park visitors and environmental stewards.


A brief description of the institution’s other community partnerships to advance sustainability:

Each year, the UW Bothell/Cascadia College Sustainability Offices partner with on- and off-campus organizations during our Earth Week celebrations to welcome their presence at our Sustainability Festival to share opportunities for students to help their organizations through volunteering. They are also welcome to cross-promote their Earth Week related events, or partner to create one together. For example, we have partnered with non-profits to host workshops and movie screenings on-campus and virtually.
