A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :

The UW Bothell new student orientation introduces all undergraduate and transfer students to sustainability issues through a discussion around reducing waste and how recycling works on campus. All orientation leaders are provided training that integrates many sustainability practices and issues into the formation of their tours, which they use at their discretion. During orientation, all meals provided to students use compostable products. Each year, the UW Bothell Sustainability Office participates in Welcome Week, an annual outreach event to welcome students to campus and share resources available to them. During this event, passionate sustainability staff and students share their knowledge and enthusiasm about overall sustainability at UW Bothell, as well as programs and opportunities for students to get involved. The University also uses the freshman and transfer orientation programs to promote the U-PASS and alternative modes of commuting to the campus.
