Included in the Social Responsibility and Sustainability Objectives of UVic Purchasing Services (attached) is a section that clearly states one principle is to "engage in procurement of locally purchased products where practical and economically feasible to reduce GHG emissions..." UVic's procurement practices and procedures are designed to support the local economy and to encourage a high standard of social and environmental responsbility of our suppliers. This includes giving preference to suppliers who are closest, use the least amount of waste, recycle packaging materials, can deliver to campus less frequently, have high labor standards, and can supply green certified/organic/fair trade products.
