The University of Vermont and State Agricultural College (“UVM” or the “University”) is a public, non-profit, non-sectarian institution of higher education located in Burlington with satellite instructional and research facilities throughout the state of Vermont (the “State” or “Vermont”). The University is the State’s only comprehensive research institution of higher education. The University owns 4,315 acres of land and 272 buildings comprising 5,938,319 gross square feet throughout the state of Vermont. The properties include 956 acres and 229 buildings located in the cities of Burlington and South Burlington, (which includes the 462.6-acre Main Campus in Burlington - 66 acres of which are the Centennial Woods Natural Area - and the 493.5-acre South Campus primarily in South Burlington), and 3,359 acres that are defined as “off-campus.” Off-campus properties include 2.8 acres and 8 buildings at Fort Ethan Allen in Essex, 16 acres and one building at the Colchester Research Campus in Colchester, 490 acres and 9 buildings at the Jericho Research Forestry Complex in Jericho, 210 acres and 9 buildings at the Proctor Maple Research Complex in Underhill, 214 acres and 14 buildings at the Morgan Horse Farm Complex in Weybridge, 20 acres and one building at the Outing Club in Bolton, 2,072 acres of natural areas, 286 acres of research property, and 48 acres of gift property. There are a total of 61 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, including 41 buildings on Main Campus, 8 buildings at Fort Ethan Allen, and 12 buildings at the Morgan Horse Farm.
The University leases facilities in 10 counties of the State for the offices of the UVM Extension System. Facilities are also leased for various administrative as well as sponsored research activities.
