Sustainability Ambassadors
A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
A Sustainability Ambassador is a UVM faculty or staff member who has volunteered to promote sustainability in the workplace and act as a catalyst for culture change at UVM. Ambassadors receive an annual training with occasional refreshers as needed. They are also encouraged (but not required because many of them come with extensive sustainability expertise) to complete the Campus Sustainability Certificate Series through our Professional Development and Training office. Ambassadors also attend monthly meetings where they network with other ambassadors. Here they troubleshoot and learn from each other about different techniques to engage their peers. They all work on a year long action plan of what they’d like to improve in their sphere of influence. Example actions include starting office composting programs, improving recycling efforts, encouraging more sustainable transportation practices, improving purchasing standards, etc. Finally, one on one meetings with the Office of Sustainability staff are available to them as needed.
