A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
The institutional boundary used to complete this report comprises spaces where the University of Utah has operational control that are within the State of Utah. This footprint corresponds closely, but not exactly with areas shown on the Full Campus Map maintained by the Facilities Management GIS Team.
MAIN CAMPUS
Founded in 1850, the University of Utah is the flagship institution of the state system of higher education. University of Utah Health Care (UHealth) is the only academic medical center in the State of Utah. The University of Utah main campus is located in Salt Lake City, Utah just east of downtown. For planning purposes, the campus is divided into five parts, as shown on the Full Campus Map (attached): 1) Main Campus 2) Health Sciences Campus (including hospitals & clinics and health sciences academic departments) 3) Fort Douglas (including University Guest House & Conference Center and Heritage Commons Housing), 4) Research Park (including Red Butte Garden and the Utah Natural History Museum) and 5) West Village and East Village student housing. Natural areas within campus boundaries are the University of Utah Heritage Preserve and Red Butte creek. The Red Butte Canyon Research Natural Area is on USDA Forest Service property adjacent to campus.
OFF-CAMPUS
In addition to the main campus areas, the University of Utah owns or leases various off-campus sites as satellite campuses, field stations, data centers and student housing. UHealth operates off-campus health clinics and services throughout the state of Utah and Intermountain West including facilities in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming. Facilities outside the state of Utah are not included for STARS reporting.
