A brief description of the institution’s efforts to support alternative fuel and power technology in its motorized fleet:
The University will purchase alternate fuel vehicles whenever possible and is currently focusing on CNG and electric for bus, hybrid for light duty and all-electric when possible for work demand. There is currently a research project that uses telematic fleet data to highlight inefficiencies in the fleet as well as identify prime candidates for electric/hybrid replacement on a use case basis.

NOTES

At the request of the Utah Legislature, the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute – with the assistance of a 37-person Technical Advisory Committee – prepared the Utah Roadmap to assist with legislative policy making to improve air quality and address causes and impacts of a changing climate. The Roadmap suggests that State institutions shift their fleets to sustainable fuels.

Milepost 2: We recommend state government lead by example by converting to an all electric/compressed natural gas/hydrogen/renewable natural gas fleet where practical, adopt energy efficiency goals in state buildings, establish telework targets, provide additional funding for reforestation, and invest more in energy planning."
Milepost 5: Position Utah as the market-based electric vehicle state: Utah to expand the state’s network of EV charging stations and incentivize EV/CNG/RNG use (particularly for older vehicles and large fleets).
