A brief description of the technology used:
The EMS-55, produced by Elstat, can save up to 35% on energy-usage by turning off lights and running on a lower compressor setting when the machine is not in use. All machines on campus will display information about the project and sustainability efforts by Coca-Cola and the University. These energy savings will lower the University's energy bills as well as reduce the University's carbon footprint.
As of 5/23/2011, a total of ten EMS-55 have been installed on campus. These are part of a pilot program that is testing their efficiency, and all machines on campus may ultimately be fitted with EMS-55 equipment.
