A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Energy Commercialization Center
Located in the University of Utah’s Research Park, the Energy Commercialization Center was created to develop renewable energy technologies from within the University and deploy them into the commercial market. The ECC was formed when the U’s Technology Commercialization Office was awarded a grant from the Department of Energy for the purpose of creating an “Innovation Ecosystem.” The ECC defines the innovation ecosystem as incorporating “industry experts, academic resources, venture capital groups, angel investors, start-up assistance, legal assistance, and what will soon be the largest available pool of clean energy intellectual property in the region.”
