A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) maintains multiple locations in San Antonio to deliver a wide array of academic programs. The campus with by far the largest physical plant, student contact hours, students in residence and related major measures of activity is the Broadway Campus located at the intersection of Broadway and East Hildebrand Avenue north of downtown San Antonio at the boundary with the adjacent city of Alamo Heights. One of the most prominent features of the campus is that the uppermost reach of the San Antonio river bisects the campus creating a remarkable landscape amenity that strongly shapes the use and layout of the campus. UIW shares the use and ownership of this campus with several other ministries of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word (CCVI), the order that founded the university. These entities include the CCVI Mother House and Generalate; The Village, a senior living complex; Headwaters at Incarnate Word, a land conservancy organization; and Incarnate Word High School. The combined campus for all of these groups encompasses 163 acres of which UIW owns just shy of 63 acres, or 40 percent. UIW's campus is organized in four parts from east to west: The Core Campus (21.29A) bounded by CCVI and Village to the north, Broadway to the east, Hildebrand to the south, and the river to the west; The Athletics/Wellness campus (32.68A) bounded by Headwaters land to the north and west, the river to the east, and UIW Residential campus to the south; The Residential Campus ("The Hill", 9.41A) bounded by Headwaters to the north, the Atheltics/Wellness campus to the east, Hildebrand to the south and US 281 to the west; Incarnate Word High School is just west of the highway and then the UIW campus is completed with the School of Pharmacy campus (5.96A) bounded by private property to the north, IWHS to the east, Hildebrand to the south and Devine Street, a public way to the west. In addition to these campus areas, UIW also owns small lots in the vicinity (2.90A) that are used for a small student apartment complex and parking. The facilities on UIW's Broadway campus total 1.83 million Gross Square Feet.
