Part 1. Student commute modal split
Total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
Through the VIA pass benefit, students have free (subsidized) passes to use San Antonio's public transportation bus system with no restrctions on usage. The Office of Campus Life tracks the number of students per semester who have activated this benefit. We are using these figures to determine the percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options, but there is no direct evidence that confirms that the VIA pass is the "primary mode of transportation" for these students.
- 2022-2023 – 411 (346 students and 65 faculty/staff)
- 2023-2024 – 669 (547 students and 122 faculty/staff)
For the reporting year 2022-2023, 346 students out of 6140 = 5.6%
Beyond the VIA pass, the University of the Incarnate Word only has general information about commuters versus resident students:
- 2022-23: 4796 commuters / 1078 on-campus residents
- 2023-24: 4747 commuters / 1143 on-campus residents
