A brief description of the institution’s program to support employee volunteering:

Service is one of four required aspects of all full-time faculty members' loads, and there is a long history of counting community service as part of that requirement. P.55 of the Faculty Handbook (https://www.uiw.edu/policy/personnel/faculty/faculty-handbook.pdf) details this policy and gives specific examples of how community service should be understood in the context of employment.

In addition, there are specific programs that support employee volunteerism during regular work hours. One of these is Meet the Mission. Meet the Mission is organized and sponsored by UIW's Office of Mission and Ministry and is held every September.

On Meet the Mission Day, University of the Incarnate Word students and employees engage the greater San Antonio community with service. In the decade since its origin, the event has grown to see over 200 members of the University of the Incarnate Word community deploy to over 20 Community Partner sites to perform service projects on a single day.

Additional information about how faculty and staff can be a part of Meet the Mission can be found here: https://my.uiw.edu/meetthemission/employee.html

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

For number of student volunteer hours contributed annually, the following method was used to obtain the number. All undergraduates at the university's Broadway campus must complete 45 hours of service in order to graduate. Although students do not divide those service hours equally over the course of their approximately four years as undergraduate students, for the purposes of this self-assessment, we estimate that an undergraduate student completes an average of 11.25 hours of certified service annually (45/4). with 3942 undergraduates in the reporting year, this means 44,347.5 hours of service were contributed.
