A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, bills, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:
UDC has been an active supporter of the District of Columbia Mayor's Sustainable DC initiative. In addition to hosting numerous events designed to engage the university community and District residents, UDC has organized staff, faculty, and students to be active contributors in the process of creating a vision, goals, and actions for making the District of Columbia more sustainable. Two UDC Sustainability Initiative Staff are facilitating working groups (the Climate Working Group and the Green Economy Working Group) which have been charged with advising the future of sustainability strategy and policy for the District of Columbia. Numerous staff, faculty, and students have participated in other working groups which are seeking to enhance existing policies and practices regarding water, energy, waste, transportation, nature, built environment, and food.
