A brief description of the institution’s employee community service initiatives:
Through the Engagement Zone system, UTRGV coordinates volunteer activities valley-wide. By signing up on the Engagement Zone site, UTRGV students, faculty and staff will be able to see and respond to organizational volunteer needs in real time. The Engagement Zone tracks student volunteer hours so that a transcript of their service may be provided upon their graduation. The Engagement Zone website allows community organizations to sign up and recruit assistance from UTRGV students, faculty and staff.
Professors may list their class through the Engagement Zone to track their students' service learning project hours.
Additionally, the Office for Community Engagement and Assessment presented two awards: Community Engagement Partner and Community Engaged Scholarship Champion, to recognize partnerships and individuals who made a strong impact. The awards were presented at ceremonies that further spread the message on the importance of community collaboration and service.
