A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):
On the first day, employees attend a New Employee Orientation. They are introduced to UTRGV history and culture, learn about benefits and retirement, training and compliance, as well as information security and complete all required paperwork.
Sustainability components are addressed through a number of compulsory online blackboard (educational training tool) modules designed for new employees:-
Module 1- "Do the Right Thing" Standards of Conduct.
This training module is from the UTRGV compliance office and is compulsory for all new employees. Because UTRGV is subject to many laws, regulations and policies, all UTRGV employees are expected to become familiar with the requirements related to their areas of responsibility. Failure to comply can have serious consequences both for the individual and for UTRGV, affecting reputation, finances, or the health and safety of employees, students and others. The Institutional Compliance Office supports each employee in doing the right thing with regards to laws, regulations and policies.The Compliance Program is educational and can be used to help employees and departments do their jobs more effectively. A positive focus on compliance promotes an ethical, values-based environment that is consistent with the mission of UTRGV. The module covers the following sustainability goal(s):
Goal 16 - Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
Module 3 :A Workplace Free of Discrimination and Sexual Harassment.
TRGV is committed to a campus environment of equal opportunity for all of its employees, students and visitors. The department is also developing an online sustainability training, which will also be used in the orientation /on-boarding process.
