A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:
UTEP employees are prohibited from lobbying government officials. However, current UTEP policies as well as proposed changes in policies that impact sustainability the President and many others in leadership roles express support for campus sustainability and all that it includes.
For example, Regional Cyber and Energy Security Center (RCES) has been actively supporting public policy in the area of sustainability by being members of Senator’s Energy Advisory Committee (SEAC) for the State Senator. SEAC also includes the Green Jobs Committee. We have been principally represented by a staff person who has been active in SEAC for several years. SEAC’s goal is to provide citizen and technical guidance to the formation of public policy that will support a growing solar and green jobs market in this region and state-wide.
