A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
This credit recognizes institutions that offer sustainability-focused immersive experience programs. Such programs give students the opportunity to witness and learn in-depth about sustainability challenges and solutions. These programs provide a memorable way for students to deepen and expand their knowledge of sustainability.
1. RARE Partnership - Master’s program
UTEP’s Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies and Rare, this first-of-its-kind master’s in communication for conservation practitioners offers international students a communication master’s degree with a focus on environmental communication and social change.
The two-year training program prepares students to develop location-specific social marketing plans called “pride campaigns,” which are designed to help conservation organizations in more than 50 countries engage community members in conservation practices.

5.Chihuahuan Desert Biodiversity Research Experience for Undergraduates
The goal of this NSF funded program is to provide undergraduate students with experience in hypothesis-driven collaborative research utilizing field based and/or laboratory methods every summer and fully engage them in projects associated with the ecology and evolution influencing Chihuahuan Desert biodiversity.
6. Sociology and Anthropology: The department offers an archaeological field school, a 7 week summer class in which students excavate an archaeological site in the field.
