A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
The University of Texas as Dallas is committed to providing an environment within which employees are encouraged to live healthy lifestyles. We promote programs to improve the health and well-being of faculty, staff and students. UTD has an employee wellness committee charged with creating an environment that facilitates and promotes the value of individual well-being through education and the provision of appropriate facilities. The committee implements the UT System Living Well program within UTD’s campus and provides additional programs, tools, and resources that will enable employees to take charge of their own physical, mental and spiritual health. The Committee also maintains a website to promote resources available to all members of the university community. Wellness programs include (but are not limited to): Hinge Health: digital musculoskeletal program, LearnToLive: digital mental health platform, Wondr: weight-loss program, Livongo and Omada: diabetes and hypertension management programs, campus walking trails, free flu shots, free health screenings, the mammogram mobile, health and fitness related challenges, BlueCross BlueShield Fitness Program, and the City of Richardson Corporate Challenge.
We also provide financial wellness education and assistance through the UT System retirement program. There are five quality retirement providers with which members can invest their ORP, UTSaver TSA and UTSaver DCP contributions. Staff and faculty may select one or all five, depending on their investment and service needs. Financial webinars, lunch and learns and private consultations are provided throughout the year to help employees plan for their financial health.
UTD has three fitness centers available to faculty and staff. The SPN Wellness Center is dedicated to staff and not available to students. The center is equipped with equipment and knowledgeable staff to assist staff achieve their health goals. An onsite dietitian/nutritionist is available to provide nutrition coaching and wellness related services.
The UT Dallas Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is provided by Deer Oaks and helps employees resolve problems that affect their personal life or job performance. Our EAP provides confidential counseling and consultation services, crisis intervention, referrals, training programs, and more.
